Suspected death of an elderly lady condemned

Mysterious death of an elderly unmarried woman in Jhakuapara village under Kalaigaon police station in Udalguri district of Assam in India has created sensation in the areas.

According to information received, the body of Maheswari Deka (45) daughter of Duti Ram Deka of Jhakuapara village was found in hanging position on the morning of August 22.

At first the villagers thought it to be a simple case of suicide. But grievous injury marks and oozing of blood down the naval areas of the dead body raised suspicion of foul play in the matter.

People of the village also alleged that one Anamika Deka, widow wife of late Narayan Deka (brother of Laheswari Deka) had a quarrel over domestic matter the previous night. They also said that the unmarried lady had been living separately from the family since long back and she had frequently been tortured by Anamika Deka at the slightest provocation.

A public meeting held on August 25 at Jhakuapara LP School. The meeting which was presided over by Sarojini Devi by an resolution alleged that Laheswari Deka could have been tortured to death. The meeting decided to socially boycott the family of Anamika Deka till her innocence was proved.

Although an FIR was lodged at Kalaigaon police station, no action has been taken so far. Police said that action would be taken only after receiving the post mortem report.

Earlier crimes in NorthEast was rare but these days it’s just increasing...I am very sad by the current state of our region. May the culprits be found soon and punished. Rest in peace~~~
